The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Thicker Than Water Review - Alternative Magazine Online

Thicker Than Water is a solid penultimate episode. There are very few new locations, but there are so many rich character driven moments that it doesnt really matter. Joan is the one element of this episode that is lacking. Shes certainly an evil and dangerous adversary that deserves whats coming to her, but she hasnt been shown much in previous episodes and only appears at the beginning and end of this one. Season 2s Carver voiced by Michael Madsen was a much more satisfying bad guy to go up against and triumph over. Still, the main characters of Season 3 have panned out beautifully. Theyre the real reason youll be back for the final episode lets just hope they can survive the aftermath of this one.

Nintendo Finally Says Goodbye To 3D

Few video game systems have had as strange a journey as Nintendos 3DS. And now, its ditching its biggest selling point. Farewell, 3D.

Street Fighter V is the best argument against pre-ordering Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Here we are again, Capcom fans are saying to each other after the clarification of how the publisher intends to sell Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Before we have a character roster and what is a fighting game made of if not a character roster? or more than a few minutes of gameplay footage on which to base our purchases, Capcom has delivered the check. The game will cost $60 for a regular edition or you can buy a $90 deluxe version including a season pass for DLC characters whose identities, as with the regular Infinite roster, are mostly undisclosed. And yes, the absurd $200 special edition also exists.

Are the free Xbox Games With Gold titles for May 2017 any good?

Neil writes "No matter what you may think of the Xbox Games With Gold scheme, the promise of free games each and every month, for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners, is something which cannot be ignored. Sometimes the masses love the offerings, whilst other months pass by with the community split over what is, and what isn't, worth the hassle. For May 2017, the Xbox Games With Gold scheme is delivering four more titles for absolutely nothing. But even with the obvious Star Wars and May the 4th relationship, does that mean it's a decent month?"

Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Episode 1 Review - Alternative Magazine Online

Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Episode 1: Tangled Up In Blue is a pleasant surprise. Underwhelming at first, it quickly grows into an adventure that successfully sidesteps the long shadow cast by the films and does its own thing with great panache. It doesnt stray from the usual Telltale formula, but it does have a certain je ne sais quoi. By the end of the episode, youll be fully invested in the Guardians of the Galaxy and their latest adventure. Its a highly enjoyable opening two hours with a wonderful conclusion  but its ultimate success will hinge on future episodes to come.

New Nintendo 2DS XL Renewed Commitment to Heldhelds or Swan Song?

Trevor von Niederhausern of Gamer Professionals writes: "On April 27th Nintendo put out a reveal trailer for a new handheld, the New Nintendo 2DS XL. It seems like a nice system and all, but what I have been wondering is what this means for the 3DS line in general. Is this new 2DS Nintendo showing their commitment to the 3DS? Is this a statement that they will continue with these systems for years to come? Or is the New Nintendo 2DS XL a cheap end of life handheld meant to squeeze out as much money as possible from a dying line?"

Capcom's Monster Hunter is a popular series of co-op action-RPGs focused on slaying giant monsters. Unfortunately, those games exclusive to Nintendo devices nowadays. Enter Koei Tecmo with Toukiden 2, a Monster Hunter-style game focused on a war between humans and mythological creatures. Although sadly unavailable on Xbox, Toukiden 2 is still a compelling Steam offering.

Why the Switch is now Sonys biggest competitor

For the time being, Nintendo has taken the gaming world by storm with the Nintendo Switch. CSG would go so far as to say the Switch is now the PS4 lines biggest console competitor. Sure theres the Scorpio, but theres nothing indicating that the Scorpio will turn the tide in Microsofts favor, as there are no games that will be designed around the Scorpios extra power. The Switch is the sexy new console in town, and it has several factors playing to its favor.

Nintendo on supply issues: Sometimes we get it wrong

Last night Nintendo made a surprise announcement: a brand-new piece of hardware is launching this summer in the form of the New Nintendo 2DS XL. That will mark the third major hardware release for the company in the span of nine months: the now-discontinued NES Classic Edition released in November, followed by the Nintendo Switch in March. The one common theme between these devices and even the older Nintendo 3DS is that theyve been incredibly supply constrained of late, making it difficult for consumers to actually purchase them.

Zheros - PS4 Review - PlayStation Country

Zheros has a heart to its varied, bright visuals and depth to its combat which, sadly seems underutilised. Whilst there's a plethora of combos to bust out, a preference to mash will easily see the job done. Platforming frustrations and the repetition of combat wears down a decent brawler that can't quite realise its potential.

One of the Nintendo Switch's most in-demand launch games arrives this week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is poised to remind [people who play video games] all why Mario Kart is so wonderful. Those who already played Mario Kart 8 and know how good it is may be wondering what could possibly happen with this version to make it so "deluxe." The biggest deal is an all-new group of Battle Modes for people to enjoy.

A fond farewell to the Wii U

It's likely that the Wii U won't be remembered by very many people. Nintendo's predecessor to the Switch didn't sell very well, didn't have a vast library, and was hardly utilized to its fullest potential. Its name confused the casual consumer who thought it was merely an extension of the Wii, and Nintendo just didn't support it as well as it should have. The Wii U was simply a transitional platforma bridge between the Wii and Switch.

EB: Day of Infamy is a multiplayer FPS created by New World Interactive, and its a fairly impressive game considering the price. First off, this game started as a popular Steam Workshop mod for Insurgency, which ended up garnering over 175,000 followers. With so much love and support for the game, it was eventually released as a stand alone product on March 23, 2017 for PC only. Dragon Quest Heroes 2 vs Dragon Quest Builders: Which Spin-Off Is Right for You?

Dragon Quest is slowly gaining a larger audience on these shores, however, and I expect the number of dragon-disciples will only grow alongside Square-Enix's promise to bring more Dragon Quest games westward. Square-Enix has made good on that promise so far: Other than the still-absent Dragon Quest X (which is an MMO and understandably less likely to toddle on over here), most of Japan's recent Dragon Quest titles have received excellent localizations. Even the spin-offs, which are automatically destined to be less popular than the mainline titles, have floated on over to us.

PlayStation Now: Playing the Expected and Unexpected Games

FanBolt writes: "The fun thing about PlayStation Now is that there are 500 games. This means that there are games available that a lot of us wouldnt even consider playing. Sure, I could check out some of the PlayStation exclusives that I missed such as the Ratchet & Clank series, or I could dive deep into RPGs like The Legend of Heroes: Trials of Cold Steel. However, while I did check those out, I also found myself tempted by games I would never rent or buy."

From GameWatcher: "With a massive 8 year gap between Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War III and its well-received predecessor, the April 27, 2017 release will feel like the second-coming to those who devoted themselves to the past war effort. While Creative Assembly handle the grand strategy of the Warhammer universe with Total War: Warhammer and its sequel, Relic Entertainment are back in action to offer the more personal, more bloody, real-time battlefield skirmish."

The Lack Of Master Chief Was The Least Of Halo 5s Campaign Problems

Video game sequels often fix the problems of their predecessors thanks to, among other things, the iterative advancements of technology. Thats on top of the fact that making creative work in the gaming medium is still an exercise in being an artistic pioneer. So you at least hope that the people making sequels know what their last game did wrong. This was a week to wonder if the folks making Halo did.

Game Review: Dawn of War III | Starburst Magazine

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. Those words immediately bring to mind images of bloodshed, greenskins and giant shoulder pads, and few have perfectly encapsulated them so well as Dawn of War. Offering fans a glimpse into the nightmarish bloodshed of a galaxy going to hell, the franchise has (with one glaring exception) stood strong over the years, and Relic are looking to extend their story into a new era with this latest release; following a three-way war between the Blood Ravens, Biel-Tan and the ever unkillable Gorgutz.

COD: WW2 needs to fix the series' increasingly poor multiplayer by improving map design

Call of Duty: WW2 just got revealed during a buzzword-filled livestream from Activision and Sledgehammer Games. Were told the series is going back to its roots. Those roots are gritty and theyre authentic. Visceral, even. Im honestly surprised nobody stepped on-stage to explain to us how this game was built from the ground up. Where the last few Call of Duty games have had us double-jumping, wall-running, and blowing our enemies out of the air like meaty clay pigeons, Activision say this is a Call of Duty with its boots planted firmly on the ground.

Well, I finally got around to trying the PSVRs 3D functionality, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Outside of the fact that I now have to wear a headset to watch 3D movies, I consider the PSVRs handling of the depth effect to be one of the best Ive experienced, and the closest Ive seen to what you get in a real deal movie theater.

Battlefield 1 gets its Spring update Heres what to expect

Carlos writes "Whilst the campaign was certainly a more than efficient way of introducing Battlefield 1 to players when it arrived last October, its the multiplayer offering that has kept players tied down for months on end, all as they chase that coveted level cap. Recently the first expansion, They Shall Not Pass, arrived in Battlefield 1, bringing players plenty of new content to the multiplayer side of the game to help keep things fresh. Today however comes a new update, and whilst this one brings plenty of fixes to the table, which will be sure to please the masses, there are also some exciting new features that should help make that fully realised WW1 experience even better."

What Remains of Edith Finch is the one and only answer to the question of how a narrative adventure video game should be. Play it, break your heart, ease your pain, witness the beauty.

Outlast 2 Review The God Delusion | The Jimquisition

Outlast 2 might have had a better shot if it released years ago and hadnt followed Outlast. As it stands, its a lower quality photocopy of itself, with any attempts at improvement acting more as defacement of an element that needed no correction. Red Barrels may have started too hard and too fast when it gave us necrophiles, well-endowed serial killers, and charmingly ghoulish amateur surgeons in its debut outing. Outlast 2 cant compete with its own legacy, and while its still a decent horror game with plenty of scares to offer, there is nothing I can point to here that I could claim as an improvement over the last one. And perhaps, just perhaps, Id have been a bit more forgiving if this less impressive of version of Outlast didnt pile one shitty ending on top of another for its final, embarrassingly deflating conclusive chapter. I mean if you dont feel cheated by the time your final meeting with Mara wraps up, you really need to see some better storytelling.

Snake Pass PS4 Review | Console Obsession

Console Obsession writes: "Snake Pass has all the bits and pieces that constitutes a typical platformer: a cartoon animal, an inviting, vibrant world filled with platforms and collectables. One vital thing is missing, however - a jump button. Noodle is a snake of the cartoon variety but isnt blessed with the human-like proportions of the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, instead slithering along the ground, much like a real snake does and, at least to begin with, hes just as difficult to tame as a real one too. His default speed is plodding, though moving from side to side will quicken his pace and you can raise his head, enabling him to climb over objects blocking his path. Progression through the game is often slow paced, but theres also something very relaxing about it thanks in part to the vibrant visuals and gentle music."

New Game Review Puyo Puyo Tetris (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

Colorful gems can still be awesome. "Its nice to see Sega releasing quite a handful of games this year. Even though this was originally released in Japan for, well, pretty much every existing console back in 2014, it took a while for Puyo Puyo Tetris to come to the West. Thankfully it also got ported to the Switch, where its fast-paced pick-and-play puzzle nature is best suited, even if its a tad bit more expensive than other versions. Heres the review."

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Preview: The Lord of War | Fextralife

Emergence at Fextralife writes, "2014's Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was a revelation for gamers who are also fans of the Lord of the Rings franchise. Often, games tied to the series have fallen short of player hopes with a handful of them providing mildly enjoyable experiences. However, Shadow of Mordor brought the series into true AAA territory, by infusing into the hack and slash genre a fluid and entertaining combat system along. But a big component of the games critical success was an innovative Nemesis system that allowed enemy NPCs to remember the deaths and other situations from its experience with the protagonist, allowing them to be promoted within Saurons ranks and grow stronger (and vengeful), while also increasing the value for defeating them. Buoyed by the sleeper success, developer Monolith hit us with a reveal announcement for Middle-earth: Shadow of War earlier this year, and a promise of a release this August, along with announcement footage of city siege gamep...
